Vision of the Office

We want to be a respected national Authority on the assessment and registration of industrial property rights as part of the intellectual property rights system.

We want to be part of, but also the creator of the principles of public policy in the field of intellectual property, as well as their implementation in society.

We see public intellectual property policy as creating the conditions to motivate the creation, support, legal protection and social recognition and promotion of innovations and ideas and their creators.

We want to responsibly and actively represent the Slovak Republic in international cooperation and fulfil our obligations under international treaties in the field of industrial rights protection.

Our aim is to act quickly, to make quality and professional decisions and justify our opinions, and to provide transparent information on the procedures and processes for the assessment and registration of industrial property rights.

It is important for us to look after the professional development and needs of our staff so that we can deliver public services on a high standard.

We are working towards digitalization, computerization, and efficiency of internal processes that we can transparently demonstrate to the public.

We want to be a modern office that communicates with citizens, performs an educational function and promotes the importance of industrial property protection to the public.

We are introducing the adjectives professional, functional, transparent and modern into the everyday life of the Office so that they also become its true image. How?

By continuously improving and innovating our internal processes:

  • We have established and maintained a quality management system in accordance with the requirements of STN EN ISO 9001:2016. In 2020, we were awarded the title of an effective user of the CAF model. We strive to follow these standards in the future as well.
  • We digitize files, open, link and develop databases.  
  • We communicate with each other and pass on best practice procedures.
  • We are speeding up our procedures: from 2021, we will grant patents in half the time of previous years if they meet the FAST-TRACK procedure conditions, and we will publish the trademark application in the Bulletin within 30 days. However, we are aware of the limits - speed cannot come at the expense of quality.
  • We make decisions predictably and consistently. We do everything we can to ensure that our decisions have a uniform procedural basis and that we unify the arguments on the substantive merits.

We constantly strive for the greatest possible transparency and contact with the client:

  • We have published the proceedings. You know how your submission is handled.
  • We launch email and SMS notifications that contain detailed real-time information about the handling of your case. You will no longer wait for ex post information, but will receive it immediately.
  • We communicate in a modern way on our website and social networks.
  • We treat each individual request individually with the aim of resolving it to the greatest possible satisfaction.
  • We offer pre-diagnosis services, giving you the opportunity to conduct a comprehensive industrial property audit for free, including guidance on how to protect your rights.
  • We have office hours until 16.00 and information centre until 18.00, we are available for as long as you need us.

By providing space for personal growth, but also by creating a pleasant working environment for the people who work for us:

  • We  are committed to listening to the needs of the Office's staff and are therefore able to work fully through home office without impacting on the Office's performance.
  • We do our best to accommodate the workers and provide the appropriate equipment.
  • We strive to provide space for personal growth and training for our employees.
  • In our work, foreign travel or participation in seminars organized by foreign partner institutions are also frequent. The approach and expertise of our staff is recognised by foreign partners.
