Responsibilities and competence
The Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic is the central body of the state administration in the field of industrial property. It performs this task on the basis of Act No 575/2001 Coll. on the organisation of government activities and the organisation of the central state administration, as amended.
It performs state administration in the field of protection of patents, utility models, topographies of semiconductor products, designs, trade marks, designations of origin of products and geographical indications.
It maintains the central fund of patent and trademark documentation, makes it available to the public and acts as a specialised centre of patent information in the Slovak Republic (other centres established by the Office).
It is the promoter of international treaties for the protection of industrial property to which the Slovak Republic is bound.
It supports the development of technical creativity and the protection of its results, education and popularisation in the field of intellectual property.
